Gascony Laughs was born when I moved to southwestern France in late 2019. Having been a stand-up comedian for nearly four decades, I have been lucky to work with so many talented comedians from all around the world. For the last 9 years I have been working with a lot of really great comics from the UK, Ireland and Scotland. They are wonderfully talented individuals and best of all, they are my friends.
When I moved here, I discovered that there were heaps of English speaking people in the area and a dearth of entertainment. So I decided to experiment and see if the area would support a comedy night.
Our first Gascony Laughs took place in the Salle de Fête in Moncrabeau in February of 2020. I did not know if people would come out to the show. I wasn’t worried about the talent because I knew my comedians were absolute professionals. I knew that a lot of folks were thinking, “What headlining English comedian is going to come to the tiny village of Moncrabeau?” And you couldn’t blame folks for thinking that. Well, thankfully enough people were curious enough, and wonderfully supportive enough, to show up and our first English comedy night was a huge success.
And then… the pandemic happened and everything shut down. Now that we are starting to emerge, albeit slowly, from the lockdowns and the forced isolation, we here at Gascony Laughs are going to try and get the show going again. To that end, we are searching for more venues and hope to bring comedy to the area on a regular basis.
Because after the last year and half…we could all use a little laughter.
